More Cutie Hairstyles!

We've been busy trying out new hairstyles on our little fashionista, and I'm loving it! Here's our latest collection. 

For her competition dance team, she has to wear her hair in a curly ponytail so one night we tried out sponge rollers!

It was such a feeling of nostalgia for me, and she loved the look!

For her competition, though, we tried just curling the ponytail piece. 

It worked out okay but didn't stay all day even with mousse and hairspray. 

She came up with this hairstyle on her own!

The next day she described another hairstyle she'd like. 

We tried a "princess braid." Cute, but little holding power for a school day. 

This is a multi-ponytail looped through each other. 

We tried this triple braid which was pretty cute and stayed put all day. 

This is an "infinity braid" which looks so cool and intricate but still doesn't stay all day. 

We tried out this hair "bow." 

This was a fishtail braid and I told her she looked very much like Elsa when she says "the cold never bothered me anyway!" 

It's been so much fun to look up hairstyles and try things out with her!

Bikes!

Aaron & I have toyed with the idea of getting bikes for the kids for a while. Now that we have the perfect space for them to ride coupled with a growing need for them to be active outside with resources available for them to use, we decided to take the plunge and purchase bikes for all 5 of us! Aaron has worked so hard at creating trails in our woods and we also have several acres of open field/ grass to ride in. It's perfect scenery for bike adventures, so we did it! 

We looked around at stores and online and eventually settled on buying our bikes at Walmart so we wouldn't spend too much at the onset of this hobby. We must've looked like quite the scene as Aaron and the boys each walked a bike to the register while Avery and I pushed a cart containing helmets, a bike for her, and Noah's bike in a box underneath the cart! Not to mention it was raining when we were loading them up in the truck!

Once home, Aaron & Noah set to work on assembling Noah's bike while Michael and Avery & I made vegetable ham faux quiche for dinner. After Noah's bike was ready, Aaron checked everyone's bike for stability and brake sensitivity. 

The following afternoon, my mom came over and took these photos. (Pay no attention to Avery's outfit- she shoved her dress into her pants for better riding!) 

They are loving their bikes and Aaron & I are too! We look forward to riding lots over spring break!

Tulips

Back in the fall, Aaron & I bought tulip bulbs from Costco. We bought a pack containing red tulips & pink tulips. We planted them in our front yard in a designated flower bed prior to the first frost. It felt like forever before we got our first little sprout! Then the sprouts continued until finally we saw little buds. The red ones burst forth first, then the pink ones. We've been enjoying these "Amish style" by leaving them in the ground since tulips don't last long when cut. We had a windy day and then a late season frost this week, so most of the tulips are on their way out but it sure was fun to have them! 

They were so much fun! We'll be happy to plant more in our other flower bed this fall, and hopefully these bright little guys will come back next year!

Supercross Race

Way back in October, Aaron and I purchased Supercross tickets for the Birmingham race which was going to take place in early March. Usually the race comes to Atlanta so we were super pumped to find out that it was coming not only to our state, but to a venue within an hour and a half of our house! We decided to buy tickets for our whole family and use them as part of the kids' Christmas gifts. 

We bought them toy dirt bikes of 3 of our favorite racers, and we had them open those gifts last on Christmas morning. When they opened their dirt bike toys, we told them we'd be going as a family to see the real live Supercross race in Birmingham in March! They were excited, and we've been counting down the weeks & days!

Finally, it was race day! We loaded up, bought some travel snacks at the gas station (read: lots of gummy candy) and headed to our parking area in Birmingham. We boarded the shuttle bus (thank the Lord for the bus!) and worked our way to the stadium. The busses dropped off spectators at an "under the interstate" park which included a playground, dog park, and walking trails. It was about 2 blocks away from the stadium. The kiddos loved playing at the playground & we promised them we'd come back during spring break!

On our way to the stadium, we saw a police car and had to get Noah's picture with it! 

Aaron was the man with the plan and knew we could enter Fan Fest & see the bikes and pits with an entry fee of one Monster energy drink can per person (instead of paying $15 p/person!) so we did that. This was next to the stadium inside the BJCC and we grabbed lunch while inside. 

Each cheeseburger came in a foil wrapper so of course I made 3 tiny swans/geese out of the wrappers. It's the little things that bring extra joy. 

We wandered around and saw the real live version of Avery's dirt bike toy (Ken Roczen's bike)!

Then we saw the real live version of Noah's bike and the rider (Shane McElrath) way in the background! 

Michael's dirt bike rider, Justin Hill, was injured and not at the race although his bike was there (we forgot to get a picture of it). The three kiddos posed with the Beta team bike which was fun!

We made our way to the stadium and stopped to survey the track. 

Our seats were really good & would allow us to see the first corner after a 300 ft straight stretch (the longest this season!). 

It was fun to see the construction crews fix the track between practices & qualifying laps. 

The opening ceremonies were fun! 

We truly enjoyed watching the events even when a misty cold rain returned & temperatures dropped lower than we expected. 

We left right before the main races which allowed us to get to the shuttle & back to our car before the crowds! It was such a fun time! We hope that they continue to come to Birmingham!
