Fun Thanksgiving Activities

Avery & Noah both did cute activities in school to prepare for Thanksgiving. 

Avery had to disguise a turkey so that it could make it through Thanksgiving safely. Both of the boys did this activity in kindergarten as well. Noah hid his turkey as a sheriff, and I can't remember how Michael disguised his turkey. Avery, the girlie girl she is, disguised her turkey as a ballerina. 

She received the turkey template from school, and she had to cut it out and glue the top to the bottom. She went ahead and colored it, thinking that was the assignment. :) We had to think hard about how we could disguise it after this. She chose to give it a ballerina outfit & the creativity began. We used cut-up pieces of some tights Avery couldn't wear anymore and made a tutu. Then we added a purple top, cut some flowers off some floral paper to make a crown headpiece, and added some purple ballet slippers. She did the planning & any execution she could. I thought it turned out so cute!

Noah was given the task of creating a Thankful bracelet and then adding a "key" for the meaning of the colored beads. I was so in love with it! 

This would be an easy craft for kiddos that they could actually enjoy for themselves or give as a gift! 

I'm definitely going to be reusing these activity ideas in future Thanksgiving gatherings!

The Start of a Break

We hobbled our way to Thanksgiving break! We get to be off this whole week and we. are. READY!

The last few weeks have been wrought with little fall sicknesses here and there. Both boys struggled with an eye allergy that Avery ended up getting today. Michael had a bout of stomach bug that kept him down for a few days, then he rebounded, only to get it again about a week and a half later. The second bout came with a low fever one day and kept him out of school for an entire week due to the school's fever protocols which haven't been updated since covid times. This past week, Michael’s insulin pump malfunctioned and wasn't delivering insulin when it said it was, so he ended up missing half a day on Wednesday as we tried to figure out what was happening. Anytime my kids are sick, I'm super stressed and distracted. So it was a difficult few weeks all around. I've battled a stye, then a slight cold. Noah is staving off a cold today. I'm ever so thankful that we have this week to recuperate!

We did kick off our Thanksgiving break with a bang on Friday evening and saw Santa at Bass Pro Shops (separate post to come), and we traveled to the northern part of the state yesterday for my nephew's birthday party. I kept the kiddos home from church with me today so we didn't share any germs that crept up on us overnight after our busy few days. Today we took it easy and are hoping for high-spirits and good health this week!

2 Festive Books

 Just in case you find yourself with a bit of free time leading up to the holidays, I've got two Christmas-y books to share with you today. 

The first one is All About Us by Tom Ellen.  This book was surprisingly fantastic! I say "surprisingly" because I knew nothing about the author or the story line before picking it out at the library. I definitely judge books by their covers, and this one was so cute! The book is written through the perspective of the main male character which is a change from traditional chick-lits. It's a modern take on a Christmas Carol and I found myself initially leaning towards the success of one character, but eventually found myself cheering for a completely different character and outcome! This book was endearing and captivating. I had a hard time putting it down at night, and found myself eager to pick it up and continue the story! It's super cute and gets you thinking about situations and decisions we make. I will probably read it again this Christmas break. 

The second book is the 12 Dates of Christmas by Jenny Bayless. I read about this one on Mix and Match Mama's book review, and I was excited that my library carried it! This was a quick read and entertaining from the start. It was a little predictable, but in a good way and the author managed to keep the story line entertaining. Although I figured out what might happen, the story kept certain potential outcomes in play for the majority of the book and kept me guessing on how things would tie up in the end. It was a fun festive read, and I'll read this book again in the future as well. 

Short and sweet today, but hopefully helpful just in case you have some long wintery evenings that demand a good book.
