We Did It! (House Selling)

Yesterday, Aaron & I closed on selling our house. I previously wrote about the listing process and of how quickly we received an offer on our home. We spent the next month clearing out the house & shop preparing to store most of our items while we live in my parents' home.

Initially our closing date was set for this past Monday and we were told the buyers wanted to do their final walk through on Good Friday. Aaron took that week off of work to make sure the house was ready. My parents helped out a ton as well. While Aaron was loading up the truck on Thursday afternoon, he realized the buyer was driving super slowly around our street and eventually stopped to talk to him & ask if they could start moving in last weekend (prior to a closing date of Monday). He appropriately told her no and that they wouldn't possess the house until after they signed the papers at closing. I informed our realtor of this weird interaction when I emailed her to say the house was cleared out. She responded that evening to say that we were correct not to allow them to move in early and that the buyers' agent said they weren't going to come look at the house until the day of closing, which was still set for the 18th. This was slightly annoying because Aaron & my parents had worked so hard on clearing out the house to prepare for a Good Friday walk through. But it ended up being okay because the weather on Easter weekend was super rainy and it would have been so stressful to try to get the house emptied out in the rain.

On the afternoon of Good Friday, things started to fall apart a little bit. Turns out, my mortgage company hadn't sent in my payoff amount. In addition, the appraisal for the buyers had a typo and had to be fixed by the appraiser and wouldn't be ready for a Monday closing. My realtor told me I'd need to call the water & power company to make sure they didn't terminate my water & power on Monday.  I tried to call those companies but it was already 4:45. In the afternoon. On a Friday. Good Friday. In the deep South.

No one was open, or if they had been, they sure weren't going to answer their phone at 4:45 on Friday afternoon.

Therefore I thought about the stress of calling those companies all weekend. On Monday morning at 7:30, I called both companies. They both told me the orders were already sent out to terminate service but they'd try to reach out to their servicemen to stop the termination.  It was two hours later until I heard for sure that both services were able to stay on for the foreseeable future.

I reached out to my mortgage company via phone call, email, and phone call again. Within a few hours of that communication, I received the response I needed and I forwarded that to the attorney's office.

By that afternoon, our realtor told us the corrected appraisal came through, but we had to wait a minimum of three days before we closed. Later that evening we received word that the closing was scheduled for Friday at 4pm.

On Tuesday afternoon, the buyers asked if they could have a cleaning company come in on Friday morning to do a deep clean. We said no, and that we were uncomfortable with that until they possessed the house after closing. Our realtor agreed with that decision (which makes me certain that the buyers & their own agent must be new to the home buying process).

The date of closing finally was yesterday and we made it! It feels SO nice to be finished with that leg of the journey.

Now all of our attention can be focused on starting our next part of the adventure-- building a driveway!

Stomp Rocket

Our last few days have been rainy & stormy, including Easter. Yesterday, however, turned out to be pretty sunny as the day went on. After dinner, we took my parents to see our property. I brought along the Stomp Rocket that Noah got in his Easter gifts and all three kids had a blast playing with it! It definitely needs to be used in an open space! Here's just a few photos of the kids playing with it.

The boys set it up while Avery & my mom went to catch up with Aaron & my dad who were walking to the back edge of the property. Avery & my mom returned to us a few minutes later. Can you spot Avery running towards us?!

This was SUCH a fun game and I know we'll get so much use out of it!

Spring & Summer Gifts

For Easter this year, I decided to keep the same mentality of buying quality over quantity.  I thought about things the kids would enjoy playing with this spring & summer especially in our transitional phase out of our house & into my parents' house while we build. I chose some swimming things and lots of outdoor things with an indoor toy sprinkled in there as well.

Noah received some water balloons, a stomp rocket, a pair of comfortable goggles in a blue/gray color scheme, a Jeep police car, and some Skittles & Reeses Pieces.

Michael received some water balloons, a swim ring, a paddle game (Goodminton), some gaming socks, and some Skittles & Reeses Pieces.

Avery received some glitter chalk, a pair of comfortable goggles with a unicorn color scheme, a book about a favorite show, some Barbie clothes, and some Skittles & Reeses Pieces.

All three kiddos were grateful & it'll be such fun to use these things this Spring & Summer!

Until Next Time,

Much Love, Reba

Happy Easter!

Today we celebrate Easter-- by far the most important holiday in the Christian faith.  It is through the power of the resurrection that we have the hope of Heaven.

I hope you have a blessed Easter!

Kiddo Update

It's been a while since I shared an update on my kiddos, so here we go!

Michael: 9 Years

Michael is such a joy to be around!  He LOVES to offer encouragement to others and gives the best hugs!  He is still a fan of video games and likes to try out new games with new scenarios.  He's an awesome reader and likes to read historical fiction as well as comic-esque novels.  I was struggling recently with figuring out what items I could assemble for an Easter basket for him since he's not a little boy anymore and doesn't necessarily like the trendy items of "big boys" so I had a thought to look up "tween Easter basket ideas" and I found SO MANY great things!  Now I'm super excited to give him his Easter basket (which essentially is a "Spring essentials" basket of fun things to do together this Spring and Summer!

Michael is tall-- nearly 5 feet at 9 years old.  He wears Adult Small or Youth XL shirts, and size 14/16 pants.  His shoe size is now bigger than mine, and I have a feeling that he'll pass me in height within the next year.

He still has the prettiest thick blonde hair and he's getting to the age of wanting to buy body washes that will smell good and stay scented throughout the day.  I used to think I'd dread the tween and teenage years, but it's so much fun to think about how he's really developing his own sense of style and preferences.  It blew my mind a week ago when we went to his endocrinology appointment and he was able to handle some of the medical preparations entirely by himself!  He's really shaping up to be a great person and I'm so proud of him.  I love you so much, Michael-buddy!

Noah: 8 Years

Noah is as spunky as ever!  He thrives on one-on-one time and will forever be my best independent player out of all of my children.  He enjoyed a recent solo trip to the strawberry patch with his grandparents and was quite the successful picker!  He still loves all things police and is constantly on the search for any new police car toys and still gets a thrill when we see police cars driving around.  When I searched for Michael's Easter basket items, I also found some great things for Noah and I'm super pumped to give him his Easter things too!

Noah is still my most sensitive kid as well and struggles with whiny voices some of the time.  He just can't quite let go of not being the baby, even though he hasn't been the baby for over four years.  He benefits from quality time and words of affirmation.  He is doing fantastic with wearing his glasses, and a recent trip to the eye doctor determined that once he outgrows his eye muscle issue, he most likely won't need glasses ever again.  He's my brown haired baby and his smile still lights up a room, almost as much as his big light blue eyes do!

Noah is pretty tall (although I can't remember exact inches), and he's skinny.  He can still fit into size 6/7 pants in the waist, but they're too short.  He needs size 7/8 pants for length, but wears a child small in shirts.  He'll be tall and thin when he's older.  He aims to please those around him and he gets continual high-achievement marks at school.  He's a blessing to be around and I'm so glad he's my middle child!  I love you so, my Noah boy!

Avery: 4 Years

Avery is a treat.  She's a sour patch kid for sure.  Sometimes she's super sweet and kind.  Other times, she's exerting her own method of spunkiness and sass.  Sometimes she's great playing by herself and other times, she needs constant company from whichever adult is nearby.  She LOVES stories and the show "Bluey" on Disney plus.  She is still utterly enamored with unicorns and mermaids.  She's a great pretend mommy to her beloved doll, Baby Pat Pat.

She has been a stellar participant in ballet class and I feel like we've found her niche. She practices her moves and the proper terms when she's not in class.  She plays ballerina with her Barbie and we read books about ballerinas.  She demonstrates her new moves and likes to look back at video clips of her performances.  She has an upcoming recital and I'm really looking forward to it!

She is on the taller side of average, and wears size child small shirts but can easily transition from pants anywhere from size 5T to 6/7.  She loves dressing up, singing (real songs and made up songs), eating and baking sweets of any kind, and cuddling.  She has a few "must haves" at bedtime like wearing her hair in a bun and singing the same couple songs.

It's a joy to be around her because it's a constant surprise of what she'll do or say next!  Avery, you're so sweet and special.  I love you!

Well that was fun!

Until Next Time,
Much Love, Reba

Hello, April!

Today started a new month, but it ended up starting off a lot like how last month began: Avery got sick.  Last night, therefore, was a bit rough and today has been spent making sure she's better. I'm really glad it's Spring Break!  Hopefully this isn't going to be a total replay of last month.

The kids and I have tried to do something fun each day while we've been on break. Michael had an endocrinology appointment on Monday, so we took a trip inside the hospital gift shop as is our usual custom. On Tuesday we worked at the house in the morning, then went to a local library in the afternoon. On Wednesday, we went to Target in the morning, then into Krispy Kreme for morning snack. That afternoon we worked at the house a bit more. On Thursday morning we returned to the library to pick up a book on reserve for Michael, then that afternoon I had to turn in our perc test results for our property. The kids came with me and we went to a local downtown candy shop after we were done & we walked around and looked at the downtown fountain to enjoy the candy. Today we've stayed home & watched shows & movies and rested.  Aaron came home from work early & took the boys on an adventure while I stayed back with Avery to let her rest some more.

Tomorrow we have another fun event planned which will round out our spring break fun. We'll also finish some house things which I'll be so grateful for.  School starts back on Monday, but at least we're in the home stretch!

Until Next Time,

Much Love, Reba
